STATE HOUSE SUMMER JUNIOR VOLUNTEER TOUR GUIDE PROGRAM
Mission/Purpose: The Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth and the State House Tours Division sponsor the Summer Junior Volunteer Tour Guide Program to encourage young people to learn about Massachusetts history and government and welcome visitors to Massachusetts as a State House tour guide.
Programs/Activities: Junior tour guides learn about the history and government of Massachusetts, including the architecture of the State House and legislative process. Tour guides have an opportunity to improve their public speaking skills and to meet visitors to Massachusetts from all over the world.
Participants: Young people 14 years of age or older who can volunteer at least six or more hours per week on a regular basis during the summer.
Getting Involved: Those interested in participating must call 617-727-3676 to indicate their interest. They will then receive a formal application in the mail that requires one teacher reference and two short essays. The application must be completed and submitted when attending an orientation session in early June. Following the orientation, interns must pass a test in order to be selected as a tour guide.
