PEACE JAM

Mission/Purpose: The mission of the PeaceJam Foundation is to create a new generation of young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates.

Programs/Activities: PeaceJam Ambassadors (Grades 9-12):  PeaceJam Ambassadors gives high school-aged youth a platform to explore complex issues facing youth today, including violence, oppression, social justice and what it takes to be a leader and peacemaker. As part of the curriculum, each year youth learn about the life and work of one of the PeaceJam Nobel Laureates, and the strategies they use to address pressing global issues.  They develop their own service projects that address the Global Call to Action, becoming creative leaders who are committed to solving the most difficult problems facing their communities and our world.

PeaceJam Leaders (Grades 6-8): PeaceJam Leaders explores the adolescent stories of the PeaceJam Nobel Laureates, and the strategies they used to overcome problems in their lives and communities. Young people explore their own identities and examine the choices that they make, including their role models and the peer groups to which they belong.

PeaceJam Juniors (Grades 1-5): PeaceJam Juniors introduces children to the lives and work of the PeaceJam Nobel Peace Prize winners. The modules are based on the childhood stories of the Nobel Laureates - what it was like growing up in their countries, the issues they faced as they grew up, and how they used civic participation and democratic ideals to work for positive change

Participants:  Students ranging from grades 1-12.

Getting Involved: The Peace Jam website provides valuable information on how to get involved with the program and includes materials available to download.
