¿OÍSTE?
Mission/Purpose: ¿Oíste?’s mission is to promote the principles and practice of democracy and to advance the political, social and economic standing of Latinos and Latinas in the state. ¿Oíste? seeks to reach these goals by impacting public policy through public education, civic and issue trainings, electoral reform and voter mobilization. Programs/Activities: “Eslabón” Youth Leadership Development Training: Eslabón means “link.” The purpose of this program is to “link” youth with civic life by providing them with skills to run for office and work on a campaign. Participants also gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of being on a board of directors. This is a seven week program offered twice a year. Each workshop is presented by experts in the field, including elected officials, former candidates, campaign managers, public relations experts, media experts and many others. Participants: Individuals ages 14-35. Getting Involved: Although younger members may not be able to use their training immediately, they are encouraged to participate as preparation for future roles in the community. Interested individuals should contact ¿Oíste? to obtain application materials.
