MASSACHUSETTS STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY

Mission/Purpose: Massachusetts Student Government Day encourages students to learn about the structure of state government, become active citizens and develop an understanding of the rights and responsibilities that we share in a democracy.

Programs/Activities: Student Government Day is an annual event that allows student participants to take on the roles of governor, lieutenant governor, legislators and Supreme Court justices. During the event the students hold a mock joint committee hearing and participate in mock formal sessions in the Senate and House chambers.

Participants: Students in grades 11 and 12.

Getting Involved: Information is sent to schools in September. One delegate and one alternate are selected by the student body of each school to attend Student Government Day in April. Interested students should contact their high school administration or the Department of Education for more information.
