HUGH O'BRIAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP

Mission/Purpose: Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seeks to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within the global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership.

Programs/Activities: Leadership Seminars are designed to prepare high school sophomores to become effective leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. By presenting multiple viewpoints on important issues, HOBY encourages the seminar participants to evaluate issues from a critical perspective. HOBY’s question-and-answer format, small group discussions, hands-on service learning experiences, and assumption of leadership roles enable participants to better understand leadership and begin to identify their own particular leadership strengths. Sessions with specific leadership themes, keynote speakers and leadership simulation games, and exercises complement their individual understanding. Discussions on democracy, free enterprise, volunteerism and community service are also facilitated during the HOBY seminar.

Participants: Students in grade 10.

Getting Involved: Every year, each public and private school in the state may select one sophomore to attend the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Seminar. Contact high school administration for more information about the selection process.
