Process

The FPU Reading Committee convened Tuesday Sept 16^th at 10:30 in the Acton Memorial Library. Present were Kathy Leonardson (Marblehead), Zaxaro Bennett (Marblehead), Mary Frantz (Chelmsford), Judy Robbins (Attleboro),Ernie Dieterich (Winchester), Marilyn Peterson (Acton) and June Michaels (Cape Ann).

 Prior to the meeting members had been supplied with:

• Current League Fiscal Policy positions

• Consensus reports from individual Leagues

• Excel spreadsheet of the responses

• graphs of the responses

• comments from the Leagues broken down by question

• local League study reports

 Kathy Leonardson acted as facilitator. Ernie Dieterich took minutes of the meeting. It was agreed that Kathy would write up her perception of what the committee agreed upon and circulate to all members for comments. Kathy opened the meeting with the reminder that the group could not impose our own viewpoints on the reports. Discussion began by setting the goals of the Reading Committee and general operating principles of our group for coming to agreement (consensus).

The Committee came to agreement on the results of the consensus after extensive discussion. The results were written up and passed before all members for approval by email, and then taken to the State Board Meeting on October 8, 2008, where the changes and additions to the Fiscal Policy positions were approved with minor changes. (See Approved New Fiscal Policy Positions). An additional recommendation was that the Fiscal Policy positions in the “Where We Stand” be reorganized.
