LWVMA Affordable Housing Reading Committee

The Affordable Housing (AH) Reading Committee met July 2, 2008 in the Acton Public Library.  Present were Lynn Cohen (Westford) Yvonne Freccero (Northhampton), Judy Grinnell (Williamstown), Jane Nash (Westwood), Joel Shoner (Brookline), and Nancy Tavernier (Acton).

Process

The purpose of the meeting was to develop a draft position for presentation to the LWVM Board for approval.

The committee members were each supplied with:

§     Summaries of consensus reports from each regional meeting

§     Consensus reports  from leagues who chose to hold local consensus meetings

§     Affordable Housing Report Notebook

§     LWVM Where We Stand

§     LWVM Impact on Issues

§     LWVUS position on housing.

§     Each member had already read the complete consensus reports prior to the meeting

Lynn Cohen and Nancy Tavernier acted as co-chairs for the meeting.  Jane Nash took the minutes.  It was agreed that Jane Nash would write up the draft position, send it to the Reading Committee for approval, and present it to the LWVM Board.  Lynn Cohen reminded the Committee that no state housing position could supersede or conflict with the LWVUS housing position.

The AH Reading Committee came to agreement on a draft position after much discussion on July 2.  It was written up and distributed to the members via email.  After several changes, it was approved and sent to LWVM Board.  Jane presented the draft position to the LWVM Board on August 13, 2008 which approved it with some minor changes.
