WRHS student wins third place in LWV essay contest

Students, parents and teachers from across the state will gather at the League of Women Voters' Making Democracy Work: Electing the President event in historic Faneuil Hall on April 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Geraldine Legros, a student at West Roxbury High School, who won third place in the 9-12 grade grouping,
will read her winning essay from the historic podium in Faneuil Hall in Boston and receive a U.S. Savings Bond. The public is invited to attend this free event.

Also, the league will honor Geraldine Legros' teacher, Brian Collins, who advised Geraldine in her winning effort. Collins will receive a classroom education grant in recognition.

In the fifth annual online student essay contest, the students were asked to think about the qualities of leadership and how a presidential election affects people's lives. "These issues relate directly to the
mission of the League, which is to promote the active and informed participation of all citizens in the
electoral process," said Madhu Sridhar, president of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts.
